Day 1 - Columbus, OH to Westfield, NY

We enjoyed a new kind of launch today.  Dick brought the trailer to the Thurber Tower parking lot.  We loaded there instead of the old way of shuttling back and forth from home to the storage lot.  Very cool!

We left at 10:45am and arrived at 5:00pm.

The Route
We headed north on I-71 to I-271 near Medina, took I-271 around Cleveland and connected with I-90.  We left I-90 at NY Exit 60 (Westfield/Mayville).

About the Day
This was a beautiful day for a drive.  It was mostly sunny with a slight breeze.  The temperature in Westfield reached a high of 72.
Heading east on I-90, near Kingsville, OH
Along the Way
Traffic was moderate.  Lots of semi-trucks and RVs.

Barcelona is on NY-5, near the campground.  It has some fun history, a marina and lake views.
Portland Harbor

Barcelona Lighthouse
Finished in 1829, the 40-foot tall Barcelona Lighthouse (Portland Harbor) was the first natural gas lighthouse in the country.  It was in Federal Lighthouse Service until 1859.

We enjoyed a fun dinner at When Pigs Fly BBQ Pit.  It’s located on the Lake Erie shore at Barcelona, NY.

Travel Trivia
The car's GPS continues to amaze.  It estimated a 268 mile trip when we loaded the destination address just before leaving the Thurber Tower parking lot.  We left the highway for lunch and for gas along the way.  The odometer change when we arrived at the campground showed 269 miles.  How does it calculate so accurately?

The Campground
We're camped at Westfield/Lake Erie KOA.  We stayed here on 07/11/10 and on 07/28/14 on our way to somewhere else.  It's a convenient place to stop, but located next to I-90.

Tomorrow
We continue east on I-90 for about 270 miles to Herkimer, NY.
